Event Details

Stop by the Children's Department any time during the month of April for the following ongoing activities.  Ask for details at the Children's Desk:

--Monthly Scavenger Hunt:  Participate in our month long flower themed in-house scavenger hunt.  All ages.

--Eye Spy:  Stop by the Children's Desk to play this fun search and find game!  

--Monthly Activity Kits:  For children of all ages, ask for suncatcher bunny kits, or pick up a STEM kit to make gooey, sticky sand slime.-Adult supervision recommended. While supplies last.

--Read Your Way Through Pre-K:  This year around reading incentive challenge is just for our youngest book lovers, Birth through Pre-K.   Sign up your child and help them earn brag tags and a book of their own by reading books with them.  For more info, contact the Children's Department at nschildrens@shelbycounty-al.org  or 205-439-5504. 

--Financial Capability Month: Family Learning Kits: ask for a special education toolkit designed to help families teach basic financial skills to their children.  Provided by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

--Reimagine School Readiness Program-For families with children ages Birth through 8 years old. Earn a free literacy kit to keep for your child!  Each kit contains books, manipulatives, and activities from Alabama Public Library Service.   How? 

  • First, sign up to participate in Beanstack HERE.   (Pick North Shelby Library as your library to get credit and be sure to include your child's age so they can receive the correct kit).
  • Second, attend 3 qualifying Reimagine School Readiness activities at the North Shelby Library during the month of April to receive a participation code!   
  • Third, record your 3 codes in Beanstack. 
  • Lastly, speak to a North Shelby Library staff member to arrange pick up of your kit.

Qualifying RSR Activities you can attend:  

  • Baby Tales (Ages Birth - 18 mos) - First Tuesday of the month @ 10:30 am
  • Storytime Friends (Birth - 3 yrs+) - Every Wednesday @ 10:30 am
  • Tech Tuesday (All Ages) - Every Tuesday @ 3:15-4:15.
