Event Details

This "treasures" talk will explore such discovered Alabama treasures as:  the accidentally dug "Tuscaloosa Hoard" of 276 pre-Civil War gold and silver coins;  the year 1926 Marengo County excavated "Whitfield Treasure" of a fortune in buried antebellum gold coins;  the discovered, some by me, pre-Civil War silver coins and hidden gold coin caches of the Clements Plantation near Tuscaloosa; and other true treasure discoveries.  We'll also look at still lost treasures such as:  the 5 ft. gold cross lost on Dauphin Island during the early 1700s era of French occupation;  the hastily buried stagecoach gold shipment that can't be found between Harpersville and Wilsonville; and the still being discovered years 1880 - 1915  Alabama soda and whiskey bottles worth thousands.  I will bring my little display of actual pre-Civil War gold and silver coins and artifacts that have been discovered by me and others over the years.  Included in this will be a circa 1650 - 1725 pirate rum bottle that was dug from 13 feet of coastal sand.  Folks can actually handle an 1855 silver half dollar that was part of the "Tuscaloosa Hoard" that was accidentally dug by an ex-Bama football player who was digging post holes on land he purchased along the old Huntsville Stagecoach Road in Tuscaloosa County.

Presented by Jim Phillips who will be providing free appraisals after the program.
